Upgrading Firmware

EG firmware can be upgraded from SB. SB allows you to cancel any queued firmware upgrades at any time.

If using SB to upgrade the firmware, SB supports firmware upgrades over:

  • DyNet – the download is performed over RS-485 using standard upgrade messages.

  • Ethernet – A download is performed using an IPv6 UDP connection (or an IPv4 TCP connection for EGs with minimum firmware 3v32 and bootloader 64v5).

Upgrade Firmware with SB (recommended):
  1. Select the EG(s) (if multi-selecting, these must be the same type) that require a firmware upgrade.

  2. Right-click on the device(s) and select sb icon firmware upgrade Firmware Upgrade.

  3. Browse to the EG*.uu file (or .dfw file for older firmware) and click the OK button. To confirm the upgrade, SB displays the Device Firmware Upgrade window. The window displays the current and new firmware version for the device(s) being upgraded.

  4. Click the OK button. The progress and status of each firmware upgrade is displayed. When complete, SB verifies that the firmware upgrade has been successful.

  • SB configuration changes should be complete, saved to device, and tested before handover. Otherwise, you may lose access to the EG.

  • If the device does not come back online after the update, use a serial connection to the device to rediscover it.

Upgrade Firmware with an FTP Client (not supported for current devices):
  1. Connect your PC to the EG over Ethernet or Wi-Fi.

  2. Run your FTP client.

  3. Add FTP connection settings.

    1. Enter the EG IP address.

    2. Enter default FTP port 21.

    3. Enter the Username as ‘guest’ and Password as ‘guest’ or a configured Username and password.

    4. Set default remote directory to B:

  4. Connect and view the directory on the EG. Only one FTP client at a time can connect to the EG. Ensure all other sessions are disconnected before opening a new session. There is a two-minute timeout period.

  5. Transfer the .uu file (or .dfw file for older firmware) to the root of the B directory. The EG will perform the upgrade and reset (~10 seconds). Once the EG resets the new firmware will be activated.

  • FTP cannot be used to update files on the PDDEG-S, PDTS, or PDEG (firmware 3v58 or later)

  • EGs newer than Q2 2016 support all upgrade options. EGs newer than Q3 2014 support FTP upgrades. EGs older than Q3 2014 must use the standard IPv4/DyNet upgrade methods.

  • When upgrading firmware with an FTP client, you must use bootloader version 64v04 or newer with a .uu file.
