Device Discovery
Upon installation, the EG uses background polling to automatically discover DyNet devices on its spur (DALI multi-master devices are not discovered by this feature. Instead they are discovered when data from a DALI-2 controller is loaded).
When SB is connected to the spur, the Discover Devices over RS-485 feature speeds up commissioning by allowing the engineer to load the device list directly from the EG instead of searching the entire spur with SB.
When SB is connected to the same network subnet as the EG, the Discover Devices over Ethernet feature enables SB to discover Ethernet devices using mDNS and attempt to connect to them securely using the default factory certificate. If a secure connection is not available, SB will try to connect over an unsecure connection.
Security Certificates
The default factory certificate is not intended for permanent operation. If a secure connection to an Ethernet device is required for operation you must set a site CA certificate, then create and upload the site certificate to each Ethernet device. For more information, see: |
-
Click Insert Devices from Network.
-
Click Discover Network > Discover Devices over RS-485 to list all discovered devices on the EG’s spur. This automatically disables background polling. You can click Retest to list the discovered devices again.
All devices discovered during background polling are listed under the Discovered Devices tab, including currently offline devices that were previously discovered by the EG. The Online Count and Offline Count for each discovered device type are displayed in the bottom right pane.
-
A dialog box prompts you to confirm if all devices have been found:
-
If the device list is incomplete, click
to reenable polling and wait for the EG to complete device discovery before repeating this procedure. This may take up to two hours on larger spurs. -
If the device list is complete, click
to disable polling and continue with the commissioning process. Polling for device discovery must be disabled in the Device Discovery editor before completing commissioning.
-
-
Click Insert Devices from Network.
-
Click Discover Network > Discover Devices over Ethernet to list all discovered devices on the trunk.
SB can be disconnected from the trunk, as it uses mDNS to discover devices over Ethernet. -
Click Add Devices to add them to the job.
-
Click the
button to set the Ethernet Trunk Connection to TCP TLS (Secure Trunk) and attempt to reconnect to the Ethernet devices. -
Click the top of the device tree and check the Ethernet Trunk Connection Settings. Depending on each device’s configuration, SB will:
-
Connect using the job’s site certificate if it has been created and uploaded to the device.
-
Connect using the default factory certificate when the site certificate has not yet been uploaded to the device.
-
Connect unsecurely to the device when a secure port has not been added to the device.
-
Not connect when there is no IP port configured on the device.
