Enumerating Drivers and Devices
The DALI network is initially unknown to the DALI load controller. The controller discovers DALI drivers and devices connected to its DALI output(s) via the enumeration process. You can enumerate DALI drivers and devices together or separately. You can also enumerate without dimming to avoid disturbing occupants. After enumeration is complete, the Outputs editor shows a list of discovered DALI drivers.
The enumeration process allocates a short address to each connected driver. The DALI controller checks for any known drivers before enumerating and excludes them from the process. After enumeration, SB updates the DALI addresses from Unknown to Known, and saves each driver’s address and information to the controller’s onboard memory.
-
In System view, right-click the DALI controller to open the context menu.
-
Select Enumerate DALI > Enumerate Drivers
-
Right-click the controller to open the context menu.
-
Select Enumerate DALI >
-
Enumerate All Without Dimming
or -
Enumerate Drivers Without Dimming
-
Each DALI load controller power relay must be connected to the same DALI bus as the corresponding output (i.e., Relay/DALI Output 1, Relay/DALI Output 2, Relay/DALI Output 3) and power must be switched on before enumerating. This ensures that after enumeration SB correctly records the relay number for each circuit in the Outputs editor. |
If you want to start enumeration from the beginning again, you can clear all preconfigured DALI addresses in the controller.
-
Right-click the controller to open the context menu.
-
Select Enumerate DALI >
-
Clear All DALI Addresses
or -
Clear Driver DALI Addresses
or -
Clear Device DALI Addresses
-
In an enumerated system, a newly installed driver may create a short address conflict (two or more DALI drivers have the same short address). To correct this, one driver’s short address must be cleared and re-enumerated with a unique address.
-
In System view, select the DALI controller and open the Outputs editor.
-
Press the
button in the Clear DALI Address column. -
Click Save to Device (F12).
After clearing and re-enumerating a driver short address, you must then re-localize the driver. |
Manual short address editing (Technician license only)
When precommissioning, advanced users with a System Builder Technician license can manually edit short addresses and other properties in the Outputs editor. To enable manual editing, ensure that Tools > Settings > Behaviour > Enable manual DALI address editing is set to True. For most users, we instead recommend following the standard procedures above to enumerate drivers onsite. |
