Room Profiles

Perhaps the biggest difference between a standard Dynalite project and a Multiroom System Manager project is the use of room profiles and room configurations. These tools are a way to create a single Dynalite system for each room type and then have System Builder populate many copies of it into a master file.

This allows you to make one set of changes that are then rolled out to every copy of that room. To take advantage of all the features in the Multiroom Dashboard you must use room profiles and configurations.

Devices existing in room profiles and populated to the master will not be editable via the master, and must be modified within their room configurations. Typically the only devices in the master file are network gateways.

Room Configuration File

Traditionally a guestroom project has a mockup room built either onsite in a renovated room or offsite in a nearby warehouse. The job file for this mockup room is then imported into the room configuration.

Once imported, you will need to make a few edits to get it ready to populate into the master. All of this is covered step by step in the Commissioning Guide.

Important Modifications
  • Set the GRMS controller Box Number to Unassigned.
This will be set later by the first set of DIP switches on the unit.

  • Delete global areas and add them to the master.

  • Create the Gateway Mapping Table on the GRMS so that the second set of DIP switches can tell it which floor gateway it is managed by.

Room Profile Configuration

In addition to configuring the devices for each room configuration, you must also configure the profile itself. This tells the dashboard what information to display on the tiles for each room. This process involves quite a lot of data entry, so try to limit the number of room profiles in order to avoid errors.

The Mapping Table

Once your room profiles are set up and configured, you are ready to populate the master. You do this by creating the Room Mapping Table. This is typically created in Excel and imported into SB as it contains a lot of data.

In the Room Mapping Table, you must populate each room number with a location, offset start, which room profile to apply, and which floor gateway it is under.

Common Areas

Any common area that you would like to show up in the dashboard and dashboard alerts must be contained in a room profile.

If you do not need control or visibility of that area in the dashboard it can be configured normally as part of the master file.

Not all features of SM or SB are available when using room profiles, so you will need to decide if you want your common area on the Dashboard or only in the System Manager client.

The following features are not available when the configuration is in a room profile (as of 06-2025):

  • Floor plans - They can be used for commissioning but currently do not appear in System Manager or the Multiroom Dashboard without an advanced license for Multiroom System Manager.

  • Shared load controllers - Each load controller must reside in the room profile it controls.

  • DALI commissioning from System Builder - DALI luminaires must be localised via the Dashboard instead of with SB.

  • DALI driver replacement - DALI drivers configured in a room profile can only be replaced from the Dashboard. Drivers configured in the master file can only be replaced from a System Manager client.

  • DALI Sensors or UIs - DALI sensors and UIs are not currently supported for Multiroom projects.

DALI luminaires cannot be localised until the SM server is up and running, which typically requires handover of the IT network.
