DDNG485 Serial Gateway
The DDNG485 is an RS-485 gateway/bridge that can separate DyNet network segments or integrate the Dynalite control system with third-party DMX512 and other RS-485 based systems.
Bridges and gateways incorporate a processor and two network ports with isolated communications between them. RS-485 networks continue to remain popular as they provide both power and data while remaining isolated from the user’s IP network. Common applications include:
-
Scalability - Bridging functionality between Port 1 and Port 2 creates an extendable trunk-and-spur topology with a shared high-speed backbone (trunk) optically coupled to lower-speed subnetworks (spurs). The device provides inbuilt address translation, routing, and message filtering between network segments.
-
Distance - The DDNG485 can act as a repeater to extend and isolate the control system, linking segments up to 800m apart.
-
RS-485 integration - The DDNG485 communicates with third-party RS-485 based systems configured to send and/or receive DyNet1 packets.
-
DMX512 translation - DMX512 is a control protocol primarily used for lighting and effects in the entertainment industry. The DDNG485 can be factory-set to act as a gateway between DyNet and DMX, either receiving (DMX Rx) or transmitting (DMX Tx) with full 512-channel addressing support in either mode.
-
Modbus power meters - See Modbus Power Meters.
When configured as a DMX512 gateway, SB and Dynalite devices must be connected to Port 1 and the DMX system to Port 2. |
While the DDNG485 supports DIN rail or wall mounting, it does not necessarily need to be installed into an electrical enclosure, as it is solely a SELV device powered from the control network. |
