Integration Design

The starting point for the integration design is the scope of works. This details integration requirements for electrical, lighting, air conditioning, security, and other systems. The BMS can integrate with these systems by mapping BACnet points to each system.

To integrate the lighting control system with the BMS, you can estimate the number of BACnet points required by identifying the number of devices and areas in the job and the types of points required in each area. Use this information and your BACnet license to calculate the number of PDDEG-S gateways that need to be ordered.

  • Please order your BACnet license before sending the license request for the PDDEG-S.

  • It is recommended to dedicate a PDDEG-S as a BACnet gateway and configure it as a building supervisor on the trunk (at the top of your device tree in System View). Then it can map all of the applicable messages from sub-devices to BACnet.

  • If two separate Ethernet connections are required, you can connect a PDEG to the trunk and the RS-485 bus to the PDDEG-S acting as a BACnet gateway.

  • Preset control is sufficient for the majority of lighting control systems integrating with BACnet. Presets allow for the broadest range of control with the least number of points.

  • The scope of works must include the maximum number of points. A single BACnet gateway is sufficient for installations with fewer than 10,000 points. Multiple BACnet gateways can be installed and configured when more than 10,000 points are required.
